GarageBand Basic Layout and First Start

Getting Familiar With GarageBand Basic Layout

When you open GarageBand for the first time, you will be asked to choose what kind of project are you going to make.

Let's choose Empty Project and make no changes to the default values for now.

You will be asked what kind of track you're going to make.

The options are the Software Instrument (MIDI), Audio (voice recording or plugging in your guitar to play with the built-in effects and amps), and Drummer (this is very special!)

Let's choose Record using microphone or line input for now.

You can change the input by clicking the button next to "my instrument is connected with", which will bring you to the Preferences where you can also change your audio output device.

Make sure you check the "I want to hear my instrument as I play and record", otherwise you won't hear what you're recording in real time.

And this is our first empty project!

You can start recording your voice by pressing R on your keyboard, and Spacebar to stop and play your recording. Use Enter to go back to the beginning of your project.

Feel free to play around with this empty project, and I'll see you tomorrow!
